On August 14, 2021, the Indonesian Embassy in Lima held a Joint Prayer for Indonesia in the context of the 76th Indonesian Independence Day. This joint prayer was an interfaith activity that presented Ustad Fahmi Zubir Zakaria – Imam of the IMAAM Center Mosque in Washington DC and Father Christiputra – Nuestra Senora Parish del Carmen Lima and was attended by all staff of the Indonesian Embassy in Lima and the Indonesian people in Peru and Bolivia.

The joint prayer activity began with remarks from the Indonesian Ambassador in Lima, Ms. Marina Estella Anwar Bey, who said that the Joint Prayer was held not only to commemorate the 76th Independence Day but also because of the worrisome condition of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. This joint prayer can also increase the sense of brotherhood and solidarity between Indonesian citizens both in Peru and Bolivia to their brothers and sisters who are suffering in their homeland.

The communal prayer event was then continued with Islamic religious prayer by Ustad Fahmi Zubir Zakaria and Catholic religion by Father Christiputra. The two religious leaders prayed that the Covid-19 pandemic would soon be lifted from the Motherland and that all efforts made by the government, health workers and the general public in dealing with Covid-19 could be successful.

The Joint Prayer activity was closed by singing national songs such as Seduction for Kelapa Island and Indonesia and a group photo where all participants were asked to hold the words #IndonesiaTangguh #IndonesiaTumbuh which is the theme for this year’s RI Anniversary.
